From the Snowies to Sydney – Year 12 Geography Field Research for Future Cities Conference

Year 12 Geography undertook a week long excursion to engage in a variety of field work opportunities. The ‘Snowies to Sydney’ field trip saw the small group of enthusiastic Geographers explore the variety of risks that threaten the alpine ecosystems of the Kosciuszko National Park, the nature and functioning of Lake Crackenback Resort as a tourism enterprise and the outcomes of urban dynamics operating within the Sydney suburb of Pyrmont.

Students were able to talk with alpine field guides, snow makers and groomers, resort general managers and field education professionals during the week. These experiences and insights offered by the guest speakers will be used to build effective case studies to be drawn upon throughout the year and most importantly during the Higher School Certificate examination.
