New technologies meet traditional crafts in an Easter STEAM project

Students in Years 5 and 6 have been discovering delicious new purposes for the 3D printer as part of an Easter STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Maths) project.

Beginning with drawings on paper, the group designed and created plastic models of chocolates using an online Computer Aided Design program and the 3D printer. Students used these models to create food-grade, silicone putty moulds, and hand-casted their chocolates to life!

Photographing the very brief moments between casting and consumption proved difficult – luckily the moulds are reusable!
