Envirokids Clean Up Australia

Our Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 students participated in the “Clean Up Australia” Week Schools’ Campaign.  Fitted out with gloves and rubbish bags, our students did a fantastic job of cleaning up their play areas.

Our Primary School “Envirokids” are undertaking a program on how we can look after our beautiful environment. They met last week with their “Enviroleader” Mrs Kiehn, and came up with some great ideas for the day, which they then presented to the Stage 1 classes. A colouring-in competition is also planned.

Our Envirokids are also helping with recycling in the classroom, and are teaching our Stage 1 kids some great tips, such as:

  • Squishy plastics DO NOT go into the recycling bin
  • Paper towels DO NOT go into recycling bin (they have already been recycled and are treated with chemicals)
  • Tissues (used and unused) CANNOT be recycled
  • Paddlepop sticks CANNOT be recycled

The Primary School have also initiated a fruit scraps collection where students are rostered to collect the scraps and take them to the green recycle bin.

Parents can help us in our initiative by making sure we minimise the use of cling wraps, plastics and muesli bar wrappers etc. A lunchbox with compartments and no waste would be a great way to help us keep our environment clean.
