The Secondary School Cross Country Carnival will be held on Thursday 29th March 2018. This is a compulsory event for all students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 and optional for Year 11 and 12 students (age 17/18). If your child cannot compete for any reason, we would appreciate it if you could please provide a written note excusing them from participation.
Students will compete in the age group according to the age they turn this year. Please refer to the following indicative guide for race commencement times noting that students in the 17/18 years age groups will need to be at school by 8.30am if they would like to compete.
8.45am – 17/18 Year Boys (6km)
8.45am – 17/18 Year Girls (4km)
9.00am – 16 Years Boys (6km)
9.20am – 16 Years Girls (4km)
9.30am – 15 Years Boys (4km)
9.40am – 15 Years Girls (4km)
9.50am – 14 Year Boys (4km)
10.10am – 14 Year Girls (4km)
10.20am – 13 Year Boys (3km)
10.30am – 13 Year Girls (3km)
10.40am – 12 Year Boys (3km)
10.50am – 12 Year Girls (3km)
Sufficient time for a warm up and race briefing will be provided to all students prior to commencement of their event.
Students are to wear their full SCAS Sport Uniform (including suitable joggers) and bring a water bottle (not glass) to re-hydrate after their race. If students wish to shower upon completion of their race, they will need to bring a towel. Students are recommended to bring a change of sport or normal uniform in the event that they get wet or muddy during this event along with a plastic bag.
Any competitive runners who wish to compete in their own running apparel (i.e. singlet/shirt and running shorts) can do so, noting the following conditions:
*Running shorts must be navy blue or black;
*Singlet or shirt tops must cover the midriff and not display any inappropriate messages;
*Non- SCAS running apparel is only to be worn for the purposes of competing and students must otherwise wear their full School Uniform/Sport Uniform before and after their race.
The top 5 competitors in each age group may be invited to attend the Hunter Region Independent Schools (HRIS) Cross Country Carnival to be held on Friday 4th May 2018. If students are unavailable to attend the HRIS event they are required to notify Mr West on completion of their race.
Parents are welcome to attend this event. We request that parents be mindful of the pedestrian activity around SCAS at all times and please observe the designated speed limit on school grounds. Parking in the southern carpark is the preferred option. It is a requirement that all visitors to SCAS sign in at the Front Office before making their way to the Back Oval (location for the start and finish).
