Meet Aaron

What is your role at St Columba?

I am the Live Production and Events Technician. I have many roles within my position, from setting up rooms in The Iona Performing Arts Centre of Excellence for classes, all the way up to running sound, lights and Audio Visual for productions and events the School hosts.

Why did you decide to undertake a traineeship?

I’m always trying to expand my knowledge and this traineeship is an excellent way to achieve that. It’s allowing me to work in the live production industry in a place with amazing facilities, while also working within a school, where its ever-changing and no two days are the same.

What have been a few highlights so far?

It’s also nice to be able to help out around the school. Make the staff’s lives a bit easier by making sure they have the equipment they need and that its working properly. Grandparents’ Day was also really fun. It was nice to run the technical side of a performance that brought such joy to the wider school community.

What advice would you give to SCAS Year 12 students who are considering their options for next year and the potential of a GAP year or undertaking a traineeship?

It’s okay to not know what you want to do after school. I applied for Uni just so when people asked what I was doing with my life I had an answer. I didn’t even make it to O Week. I decided I wanted to take some time to figure out what I wanted to do.

Always consider other options. There’s always another way to get to where you want. Don’t be afraid to fail – if one path doesn’t work out try another one.
