SCAS Wins Year 3/4 HRIS Basketball Championship

On Thursday 25 October the Year 3/4 boys and girls Basketball teams travelled to Newcastle to compete in the HRIS Gala Day.

Both teams competed admirably on the day, displaying outstanding sportsmanship and encouragement.

The girls team, coached by Mr Lamb, placed fourth. They tied with the champion team and narrowly lost to the runner-up. This was a fantastic effort by the girls. Their determination was on display throughout as they never gave up. Their come back victory was a highlight, which kept them in contention for the finals.

The boys team, coached by Mr Hilberts, were undefeated during the day. In the round games, they were quite dominant, beating the opposition by double figures. In the finals, the boys played two tight games against St Philip’s Christian College and Avondale College. This tested their teamwork and fortitude to ensure they stayed together. They rose to the occasion narrowly edging past both strong sides to claim the winner’s trophy.

Despite the fantastic results, the highlight of the day was watching the support the students had for each other. Both teams watched the other’s games and offered encouragement as well as supporting their own teammates whether they were on or off the court.

Thank you to both coaches, Daniel Hedger and Jarvis Page who assisted the teams and the parents who made the trip to support the students.
