This week has exemplified the vibrant spirit and thoughtful reflection that characterises life at SCAS. Let me share some highlights from our busy week.
Swimming Carnival Success
Our week began with an outstanding Swimming Carnival that showcased the strength of our House system. The high attendance and enthusiastic participation reflected our students’ commitment to school life. It was particularly heartening to see students supporting one another across all levels of swimming ability – from our competitive swimmers to those participating for fun and house spirit. Our Year 12 House Captains demonstrated exceptional leadership, creating an atmosphere of encouragement and friendly competition. We look forward to announcing the final results at next week’s assembly.
Remembering the National Apology
During assembly, our Indigenous Liaison Coordinator, Mr Tejcek, led a meaningful recognition of the Anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generation. This observance aligns with our commitment to creating an inclusive and respectful community at St Columba. Students were reminded of our core expectation to be upstanders – actively contributing to a safe and supportive environment for all members of our community.
Chapel Reflections
Reverend Cornish’s chapel service this week explored the Sermon on the Mount, specifically focusing on finding blessing during times of persecution for faith. Students engaged with a powerful reflection on kindness and the importance of being a blessing to others. This message beautifully complements our wellbeing program, highlighting how Jesus’ teachings provide guidance for caring for others while nurturing our own wellbeing.
Looking Ahead
Year 9 Connections and Cocktail Evening
We’re excited to welcome Year 9 parents to our Connections and Cocktails evening on Wednesday, February 19, starting at 5.30 PM. The evening will begin with an overview of our enriching programs planned for the next two years, including our wellbeing initiatives, camp programs, and service learning opportunities. Parents will then have time to connect and socialise. Please note this is a parent-only event, and student supervision will not be available.
Cyber Safety Sessions
Next week, all Secondary students will participate in Cyber Safety information sessions presented by the Police Youth Engagement Officer. These vital sessions will address the challenges of navigating the digital world safely and responsibly. We believe educating our students about technology safety is crucial as we prepare them for an ever-evolving digital landscape.
These experiences across sport, cultural awareness, and spiritual reflection demonstrate how St Columba continues to nurture well-rounded individuals who understand the importance of community, respect, and service to others.
