St Columba Year 11 and 12 Community and Family Studies students slept in the Iona Centre overnight this week for Youth Homelessness Day. The sleepover was organised to raise public awareness of the issue of youth homelessness, and the contributing factors which lead to young people experiencing homelessness. The activity was designed to give students a better understanding of what it is like to be sleeping on the streets.
In addition to sleeping at school, each student was given $2.00, with the task of working out how best to spend that amount for dinner. The students enjoyed the challenge, but were very aware that if this was their situation every night it would not be an enjoyable experience.
