Each year St Columba Anglican School celebrates its continuing development as a dynamic learning community through the medium of Columba Day. Our aim is to make this a day that celebrates not only our heritage, but the vibrant and joyous nature of the school.
The program for this year will be:
Time | Event |
---|---|
8.50am to 9.30am | Morning Assemblies and Roll Call |
9.30am to 10.15am | Opening Ceremony in the Iona Sports Centre |
10.15am to 10.35am | Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 fruit break. Other years move to Back Oval. |
10.35am to 11.30am | Box Car Rally (Back Oval) |
11.30am to 12.15pm | Break - Canteen open, BBQ available |
12.15pm to 1.00pm | Challenge Sports Matches (Back Oval) and Talent Quest (Amphitheatre) |
1.00pm to 3.00pm | Carnival Activities |
3.00pm to 3.20pm | Assembly and Dismissal |
Primary and Secondary students may wear mufti for the entire day, emphasising their House colours. Normal rules governing mufti will apply, including fully enclosed shoes, no shoestring straps, no midriffs or excessively short skirts or shorts.
Columba Day will be a completely cashless day. The charity donation and cost of the fair has been included in each student’s Camp and Activity Resource (CAR) Fee. All activities, food and stalls will be free of charge.
Students may bring their own lunch, or they may purchase food from the Canteen. A BBQ and other food stalls will be available at the carnival at no charge – see list below. In addition, the Iona Café will be open for purchases by senior students and parents all day until 4.00pm.
Proceeds from the carnival will be used to make a donation to the Grafton Cathedral Fund, and to Mukti Australia, which is involved in projects promoting health and wellbeing, education, vocational skills training, housing and community building in India and Sri Lanka.
As Columba Day is a community event, the school would also like to warmly invite all parents and SCAS community members to join us for this very special day. Please come along and watch your children performing and having fun at the carnival. All visitors are required to sign in at the school Front Office upon arrival.
The Carnival will be held at the front of the school and some parts of the roadway will be closed from 12.00pm. Parents are asked to park in the designated car spaces inside the school grounds, or along the side parking area off Kyla Crescent.
In the event of wet weather, normal lessons will operate until 1pm, and the carnival will still go ahead with some of the activities being deleted or modified for indoor venues. The Talent Quest and Box Car Rally will be postponed to a later date.
We hope that this year’s Columba Day celebrations will be an event that all members of the St Columba community will enjoy.
