Did you know this month is Fruit & Veg Month? Run by the Healthy Kids Association, each year Fruit & Veg Month has a special theme to inspire kids to get interested in eating, enjoying and learning about fruit and vegetables. This year’s theme ‘Building Fruit & Veg Communities’ encourages school communities to grow and buy local fruit and veg. Local community-based initiatives connect school community members, create local food supply and encourage people to eat more fruit and vegetables.

What are your childrens’ favourite vegetables? This year, the Healthy Kids Association are asking students to design a seed packet for their favourite vegetable. There are seven great prize packs up for grabs to help the winners start their local food communities. Each pack includes a guidebook for gardening, a seed bundle, a hand trowel and a pair of kids’ gloves. Winners will be selected from entries across the state, with one winner from each year level (Kindergarten to Year 6). Healthy Kids Association may publish some entries in its digital or printed communications. The entries will be de-identified before publishing.

Entry forms will be available at School Library during weeks 9 and 10 with a collection box for completed entries. Completed entries must be submitted to the Library by Friday 23 September in order to be entered into the competition. We can’t wait to see the creative drawings students come up with!
