The Dawson Library at St Columba loaned more than 18,000 books across the course of 2024! This is a fantastic statistic that shows the immense value students and parents place on borrowing and reading the books within our fantastic collection. As a means of maintaining this collection and ensuring that loans are returned in a timely manner, the Library Team has refined the overdue alert and recuperation system.
Primary school students can borrow up to two books at a time and Secondary students can borrow up to four books, depending on their year level. Books may be on loan for two weeks, however, students can request an extension if they require additional time to complete the book.
During week five of each term, the library circulation system will send a reminder email to students, with a copy of the email also sent to parents/guardians, of any books that are more than five weeks overdue. Students should find and return these books as soon as possible.
During Week eight of each term, the library circulation system will send a reminder email to students, with a copy of the email also sent to parents/guardians, of any books that are more than eight weeks overdue. As these are assumed lost at this time, the Finance Team will use this information to generate an invoice equal to the replacement value of any overdue books. This amount will be added to the student fees account at the end of the term. Needless to say, if students return any of these books before the next billing cycle, the invoice will be waived or refunded as required.
Thank you for your support of your children’s reading and support in helping maintain the resources provided by the Dawson Library at St Columba.
