One of the main features of the NAPLAN Online format is that it is a tailored (or adaptive) test. The tailored test provides a more precise assessment of your child’s performance in the areas of reading, language conventions (grammar, spelling and punctuation) and numeracy by adapting to responses. As your child progresses through the test, questions may be easier or more difficult, to better assess his or her ability. Your child should not be concerned if he or she finds the questions more difficult than expected – the pathway may be more challenging. Many of the same questions appear in both paper and online tests, but not every student doing the online test will be answering the same questions in the same order. Your child’s NAPLAN results and scores are based on the number and complexity of questions he or she has answered correctly.
Students in Year 3 will be using school devices to complete the tests but must have their own set of working headphones for these tests.
NAPLAN Browser Download Update: Please note the following updated browser download expectations:
Students in Year 5 and the Secondary School need to have already downloaded and installed the NAPLAN-specific “locked down browser”. For Year 5 this needs to be before they complete practice tests in Week 5 and for Year 7 & 9 before Week 6. The specific versions required are below:
Windows – NAPLAN v5.9.2 (Updated: 20-Feb-2025) – Please note the recent update!
Mac – NAPLAN v5.8.38 (Updated: 28-Nov-2024)
Chromebook – NAPLAN v0.16.0.1 (Updated: 06-Oct-2021)
Windows users need to be running Windows 10, version 21H2 or later and MacBook users need to be running macOS 12 or later (this is a new change). Please ensure students laptops have had recent operating system updates applied.
For students having difficulty installing at home, there will be opportunity to download this software in a year or class meeting prior to the commencement of the NAPLAN tests. They can also obtain assistance with these requirements from our EdTech Team in the Library, should they miss this opportunity.
Further information, including frequently asked questions, can be found by visiting the NAPLAN website. If you need to clarify information in relation to the NAPLAN tests, please contact the school.
