“Opportunities are usually disguised as hard work, so most people don’t recognize them.”

At St Columba we say we offer our students  “A World of Opportunities.”

So what are the opportunities we offer? You might be surprised that, of the ones we support, the majority are not related directly to the standard understanding of “Formal Education”.

Educationally, we most definitely offer the following:

• Excellent teaching from great and dedicated teachers
• Strong emphasis on the development of Foundational skills of literacy and numeracy
• Support for those students who need it
• A learning system that prepares students for future success (6Cs)
• A wide range of subjects
• Electives and approaches that inspire engagement and aspiration

But we do not stop there.

In terms of Citizenship development we offer our students opportunities to develop:

• A world view
• A sense of civic engagement and responsibility
• Opportunities for service to the community
• An environment that allows students to develop positive socialisation skills
• An opportunity to work with students from a diversity of backgrounds and cultures
• A strong work ethic

In terms of career preparation we offer our students:

• A sense of aspiration to achieve your best
• Leadership opportunities and training
• Working on developing mutually positive partnerships with universities and businesses
• Supporting applications for early entry to university courses
• Modelling of successful transition from School by our alumni

In terms of life skills we offer our students

• A safe place to learn and grow
• Acceptance of a range of talents and interests
• Resilience training
• Support of a range of creativities
• Providing a range of challenges that our students can take part in and learn from
• Supporting the development of self-discipline

We believe that this entitles us to state that we offer our students a holistic education, not one whose worth is determined by marks, victories or certificates alone.
