St Columba’s Peak Performing Arts Academy recently travelled to Sydney for a weekend of acting workshops, a theatre jazz dance workshop, a capella workshop and an industry connection session with professionals who shared their industry journeys with the Peak students and continued conversations over afternoon tea.
Students made time on Friday night to gather on the rooftop lounge at the YHA Sydney Harbour hostel as the Year 10 peak students launched the next main Peak project, the 2024 Peak Showcase.
Thank you to the following industry guests, who shared their stories and knowledge with the group:
Chris Tomkinson – actor, director
Tony Cogin – actor, singer, physical theatre actor, theatre maker
Maria De Marco – actor, singer, cabaret performer and writer, previous director and manager of Newtown Theatre and speech and drama teacher
Sarah Lambert – writer, director, producer, actor
Abi Tucker – actor, singer, song writer
Doron Chester – actor, musical theatre performer
Tyler Fitzpatrick – actor, stage manager, director, producer
Ashleigh King – Assistant Stage Manager, Bangarra Dance Theatre
Meet Panchal – Assistant Stage Manager, Sport for Jove ( 2023 SCAS Graduate)
The chat and afternoon tea connection was an opportunity for the Peak students to really connect with the industry.
The program was full, but they are being inspired and empowered to continue their training and passion in their areas of interest across performing arts. The workshops this year will contribute to the skills, techniques and methods each student will access to develop their characters for the Peak Showcase coming up in Term 4!
