Primary Vocal Soiree a Joyful Evening

The new Primary vocal program had its first night of performances this week at the Primary Vocal Soiree in the chapel. It was a packed house – in fact we will probably need to move to the Iona Theatre next year.

The Stage 1 choir, under the direction of Mrs Amy Corrigan, was delightful as always and found the whole event very exciting. They also had the chance to sing with the Stage 2 and 3 choirs, and the combined sound of almost 100 children was wonderful.

The Stage 2 and 3 choirs were highly entertaining, and got the audience enthusiastically involved. Thanks to Teresa Cox, Emily Wills and Rose Wilson for their work with these ensembles.

Iona Voices, our auditioned 3-6 choir had its first public performance and should be very proud of themselves. Rose has done fantastic work with them and it will be very exciting to watch their future progress.

From next week, there will be a change in the vocal program, with both Stage 2 and Stage 3 choirs rehearsing on Tuesdays at 3.15pm to 4pm, under the leadership of Rose Wilson and Adam Kennedy. New members are always welcome. Please just email Marie van Gend if you wish your child to join one of our choirs, so we can add them to the roll, and notify their classroom teacher so they are released early from class.

May I take this opportunity to warmly thank Mrs Teresa Cox for her work with the Primary choirs over the last couple of years. She has given so much of herself over that time and nurtured a love of singing in her students that will last their lives.

I would like to welcome Mr Adam Kennedy to our Primary Vocal team. Adam has a background in music and drama and has worked extensively in disability services. He is now the Man Shed leader, and will be focusing on developing the boys’ program in Primary school as well as leading Stage 2. I am sure he will bring a wonderful new energy to the team.
