Event Program and Timeline
The SCAS Secondary Athletics Carnival is compulsory for all students in Years 7-12, and serves as a selection event for the Hunter Region Independent Schools (HRIS) Athletics Carnival which will be held on Thursday 1 August 2024. Students who place first and second in their age group for each Track and Field event may be selected for the SCAS team to attend the HRIS Carnival. We request that students notify Mrs Johnson or Mr Barrett as early as possible if they do not wish to be eligible for selection in the SCAS team to attend the HRIS Carnival. Please see here for the event program and timeline.

Event Day Procedures
Students are to meet their Age Group Manager on the SCAS Front Oval for roll call and to collect their wristband/competitor number. The first event will commence at 9.10am. Students will move to each event in their respective age groups on a rotational basis. All students will reassemble in House groups for the relays at the conclusion of the Carnival.
The Athletics Carnival is scheduled to finish at 3.15pm which will enable students to travel home as per their normal school day arrangements. We would discourage early departures prior to this time, and any student who does need to depart early will need to be signed out by a parent/caregiver at the School Front Reception. Please allow time (up to 15 minutes) for us to be able to locate your child if signing out early.
What to wear and bring
Please ensure that your child(ren) have the following items (with names clearly marked):
– SCAS Sports Uniform, including hat/cap and suitable enclosed shoes. Students should see Mrs Johnson or Mr Barrett prior to the carnival if they wish to borrow a singlet.
– Sunscreen (coloured zinc is allowed for the face only);
– Good food for the day (or a canteen order – the school canteen will also be available for lunches as normal, although pre-orders are requested to minimise waiting times)
– Water bottle (not in glass please).
Year 12 students
Senior students may wear House colour costume/dress which follows the school mufti clothing guidelines. However, correct and appropriate sporting attire is a requirement to compete in races. Alternatively, students must adhere to the uniform guidelines above.
Spectators
We are pleased to advise that parents and caregivers are very welcome to attend this event. We would ask that parents be mindful of the pedestrian activity around the school campus, and please observe the designated speed limit on school grounds. Parking along the Iona Avenue boundary is the preferred option. Please do not park on the Front Oval, in front of Columba Cottage or in the ‘Kiss and Drop’ area. It is a requirement that all visitors to SCAS do the usual sign in at the Front Office before making their way to the Front Oval. There will be designated areas for spectators and no parent should be on the inside of the track.

Please remind students that, in addition to the items that are normally prohibited, they should not bring:
– Crepe paper
– Streamers
– Water bombs
– Mobile phones
– iPods/Music devices
