Students in Years 2 to Year 6 represented SCAS at the 2018 Hunter Region Independent Schools (HRIS) Swimming Carnival held at Maitland Pool recently. The 38 students represented SCAS with distinction, both in and out of the water.
After a successful school carnival (where 14 records were broken) expectations were high and we were hoping to improve on our 5th place in 2017.
From the outset, our swimmers were performing well. We were further motivated when the first point score update revealed that SCAS was in 2nd place. Good individual results continued across the day and the point score remained tight going into the relay events, with SCAS trailing Lakes Grammar (who have had a stranglehold on the trophy for many years) by a small margin. The SCAS relays though would prove the difference on the day, with 3 out of our 4 teams placing in the top 2 which saw SCAS crowned the Division 1 Swimming Champions.
It was pleasing to witness our swimmers being gracious in both victory and defeat across the day and also their support of each other on the day. The following 14 SCAS students were subsequently selected in the HRIS Swimming team to participate at the NSW Combined Independent Schools (CIS) Swimming Championships to be held at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on the 22 March:
- Trent Alley
- Ben Barlow
- Lily Barlow
- Levi Beard
- Mackenzie Burley
- James Collum
- Matthew Delaney
- Grace Curran
- Carys Gill
- Hayden Johnson
- Tayler Miall
- Jasmine Rumbel
- Ted Strong
- Michael Vandoros
We wish these students well in Sydney and congratulate the entire SCAS Swimming team on this wonderful result. Thank you also to the many parents supporters who made the trip on the day.
