Over the weekend, eight students from the Iona Peak enrichment program and Year 9 Dance travelled to Sydney to participate in the Statewide finals for the Sport For Jove Shakespeare Carnival. Our students had the amazing opportunity to engage in workshops with industry professionals on Saturday, and spent Sunday competing on the stage of the York Theatre at the Seymour Centre in Sydney.
This is the first year St Columba has entered this Statewide competition. Our students competed with 20 schools across the State, and entered 4 categories: Dance, Duologue, Music Composition and Smart Film.
Every entry received a place at the Carnival:
Smart Film “Before Oberon” by Piper Graham and Liam McCann placed third in their category.
Music Composition “Brightest Star” composed by Adam Hempsell placed third in this category.
Duologue “Much Ado About Nothing” performed by Piper Graham and Adam Hempsell placed second in their category.
Dance “Macbeth” performed by Zoe Game, Angus Ismay, Kira Mistry, Mekky Ratakan and Anne Riad placed First in their category.
Special mention for Acting to Piper Graham for her brilliant portrayal of Beatrice in the Duologue.
It was a wonderful weekend of experiences, connections, skill building and achievement for all students involved.
A special thank you to Mrs Brianna Lukes for her work with the Year 9 Elective Dance group, and Mrs Bella Mistry for her amazing work with our Peak Academy students! St Columba we are coming home with a crown!
Thank you also to all of the students’ families for making the trip down to Sydney and supporting our students in this first ever for St Columba! Congratulations to all!
