Siobhan Van-Der-Ley graduated from St Columba Anglican School in 2012 and has since completed a four year Bachelor of Primary Teaching. She has also undertaken a ten week practicum at New Lambton Public School with the Year 5 ELAN (extension on literacy and numeracy).
During her internship, Siobhan was hand picked via stringent criteria to participate in a future focused learning project where only 6 students from more than 200 applicants were chosen. As part of this project, Siobhan’s Year 5 students designed an ‘imaginative journey’ and created a world with tactile elements, sounds, smells, learning activities, books, a website with interactive links and stories, games, plus a teacher’s guide of activities for K-6 lessons in different Key Learning Areas. This is now being used as a stimulus for lessons within the school by other students and teachers.
Since completing her studies, Siobhan is preparing for job interviews and working casually, and is enjoying every moment of the teaching world! As well as this, she is excitedly planning her wedding when she will marry another Alumni student, Daniel Biltris, in September of 2018. We congratulate them on their future together!
Siobhan recently posted this to her Facebook to celebrate finishing her degree.
“It is official, I am a qualified primary teacher! The last 4 years have gone so fast, and the last 10 weeks will be so memorable. I have had a blast working with such lovely people, especially my amazing supervising teacher. Thank you for everything you have done Liz, I have grown into the teacher I am today because of you! I could not have asked for a better colleague to help me finish the last milestone of my degree. Now, let’s see what the future holds!”
Congratulations, Siobhan! We wish you the best of luck for your future as a teacher.
