Soup Kitchen Donation Drive Update

Thank you to our amazing SCAS community for their generous donations over this year for the Soup Kitchen run by St Thomas’ Church.

The donation drive was a student-led initiative by the Year 12 and Year 6 Student Leadership Teams. The need for support in our area grew exponentially throughout 2021 with impacts from the floods that devastated our region, Covid Lockdowns and the subsequent rising displaced/homelessness experienced in our local community. Over the past eight months we as a school have managed to collect over 150 boxes of donations that have been gratefully received by the volunteers at the Soup Kitchen. These donations of food and toiletries have really made a massive difference to the lives of people in need.

I would like to make particular mention of Milly Dunbar in Year 10 who made over 50 reusable fabric bags and female sanitary items plus independently raised over $600 worth of donated food from Coles. She is a remarkable young person who has shown maturity far beyond her years. As her teacher, I have been so proud to see her hard work, effort and philanthropic ways grow throughout the course of the year.

Thank you to the school community for your generosity and kindness. Your continued support throughout the year has made a major difference in the lives of those in need. It has been a blessing to work with our student leaders to achieve their goal of helping those less fortunate in our local community.

– Miss Watters, Co-ordinator of Student Leadership
