2025 has begun with tremendous energy and optimism across our campus. It’s wonderful to see so many bright, enthusiastic faces as our students settle into their new classes and routines.
Building on Excellence
Last year’s graduating class exemplified what makes St Columba exceptional. Their outstanding HSC results demonstrated that academic excellence and active school involvement go hand in hand. As the first cohort to complete our Deep Learning program from Year 7, their success validates our innovative educational approach.
This year promises exciting opportunities across all areas of school life. Our students will defend the HRIS Athletics Championship title, while our performing arts program builds on last year’s successful production of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and our acclaimed dance showcase. Our co curricular groups will start in full next week and are ready to reach new heights in 2025.
We’re expanding our wellbeing programs in 2025. The new Resilience Project will provide practical tools for managing challenges, while Year 9 students will participate in Rise Up mentoring experiences integrated with their service learning each term. Our peer support programs continue to strengthen connections across year levels.
House Spirit and Swimming Carnival
Our first major house competition, the Swimming Carnival, is approaching on Monday, 10 February, at Port Macquarie Olympic Pool. Students participated enthusiastically in Thursday’s House Spirit Day, donning house colours and practising their chants. This compulsory event is an excellent opportunity for students to build house spirit and community belonging.
Important Swimming Carnival Details:
Start time: 8:50am (with early events from 8:30am)
Location: Port Macquarie Olympic Pool, Gordon Street
Early events: 100m Freestyle (8:30am) and 50m Butterfly for competitive swimmers
Conclusion: 2:30pm dismissal
For complete swimming carnival details, including the schedule and what to bring, please see here.
Student safety and participation are our priorities. Even non-swimming students are expected to attend and support their house. The carnival will proceed rain or shine, with thunderstorms being the only exception.
Looking Ahead
We encourage all students to embrace the diverse opportunities St Columba offers. Whether through sports, performing arts, academic competitions, or community service, these experiences foster friendships and personal growth that define the St Columba journey.
Thank you for your continued support as we begin another extraordinary year together.
