Thursday of Wellness Week marked the 2018 DANCE-OFF. The Dance-Off is an annual opportunity for each year group to come together to compete, while still having fun and the wholehearted support from other years. It is undoubtedly the highlight of everyone’s week, and perhaps even the term. For Year 12, it is of particular significance, and a hotly contested event!

Under the guidance of our talented dancers, Emily Brown and Kimberley Farrell, Year 12 put weeks of effort into preparing an epic piece to mark our last dance off (and potential first win). To mark our transition to adulthood, symbolically, we chose a children’s TV theme, which included all our favourite shows like Bob the Builder and Hannah Montana. During a stressful time of our HSC year, winning the Dance-Off was a goal we could work towards, while having lots of fun together.

Nerves and excitement filled the common room on Dance-Off day. After the Class of 2017’s fantastic performance last year, we knew that we would need to produce a fantastic performance to take away the win. Year 12 as a cohort really stepped up to make our last Dance-Off a memorable one. Special mention to the six Power Rangers in morph suits, and Tom James, for wearing not one, but two dresses. Although the competition was stiff, thankfully (from our point of view!) all the hard work was enough, and the announcement of Year 12 as the winners narrowly defeating Year 10, was met with scenes of jubilation.

We are all so proud of ourselves for putting our HSC stresses aside and coming together to have fun. The time we spent preparing and performing the dance has been a highlight of our final school year. We would like to thank Mrs Diplock for planning the week, and all the other year groups for their fantastic effort and participation. The St Columba Dance-Off has become firmly embedded within the social fabric of our school, and provided us with a memory that will last a lifetime.
