On Thursday, 28 November, a large group of St Columba Year 6 students brought the spirit of Christmas to Highfields Manor aged care residents. The students, dressed in festive attire, performed a selection of Christmas carols for the residents and staff. The performance was well-received, with residents and staff alike enjoying the students’ beautiful voices and cheerful demeanour.
One particularly heartwarming moment occurred when a small group of students volunteered to sing outside the room of a resident who was unable to attend the main performance. The resident’s family had made this special request as he was in his final hours of life and had always cherished the children’s visits. The students’ selfless act brought comfort to the family, and provided a beautiful and meaningful experience for all involved.
This latest excursion to Highfields Manor was another valuable opportunity for our students to develop empathy and compassion. By sharing their musical talents with the residents, they brought joy to those who needed it most. We are incredibly proud of their courage and kindness. We are also very grateful to Highfields Manor aged care residence staff for their continuing support of this valuable Deep Learning Partnership.
