Every year at St Columba Anglican School we celebrate the beginning of the Christmas period with a beautiful candlelit service called Nine Lessons and Carols.
This service was first held at John’s College Cambridge in 1919 and has been part of the Anglican tradition ever since. Our version of it includes the nine traditional readings matched with pieces of poetry or prose that reflect on the same message.
Choral music plays an important role in this service. The Chamber Choir, Iintombi Zicula, Senior Choir, Man Shed and the Junior Choir sing between readings and the congregation is invited to join them for several congregational carols. A candle lighting ceremony provides time for silent reflection.
All members of the St Columba family and wider community are invited to join us for this beautiful and uplifting hour. Doors will open at 5.30pm and our baroque ensemble, Da Camera, will play until the service starts at 6:00pm.
