Hannah Jones Signs with Wellington Phoenix

Congratulations to Hannah Jones (Class of 2020), who has been signed with the A-League football team Wellington Phoenix. We recently spoke with Hannah to find out more about her signing.

“Receiving an opportunity to play in the A-League Women’s Competition for Wellington Phoenix was extremely exciting and almost a dream come true. Not only will this be my first year as a professional footballer, but I am also extremely fortunate to be a part of the club’s and league’s history; as not only is it the first female team for the club, but it is also the first team ever to be composed entirely of both Australian and New Zealand players” Hannah said.

“I am extremely grateful for all the people that have been a part of my journey to this point, including my coaches, teachers, friends and family, as this opportunity would not have been possible without any of them. This first week with the club has been really exciting, as it has been one of my first experiences in a professional environment, where football becomes a job. Whilst this has brought upon challenges in trying to balance a full-time uni degree simultaneously with training every day of the week and having various meetings, it also has provided me with the opportunity to build resilience. Having the opportunity to play with talented players from across the Tasman has been really exciting as I have been” able to learn new things and methods, and improve as a player.”
