Our Open Girls’ Hockey Team represented with true SCAS spirit at the HRIS Tournament held at the International Hockey Centre in Newcastle recently.
The girls played hard across five games and won their game against Newcastle Grammar.
The team was comprised of SCAS girls who played regular competition hockey and were supported by other girls who had previously played a few years ago as well as some girls who had never picked up a hockey stick prior to this term.
Coach, Mrs Angela Van Zealand, was incredibly proud that all the girls came together and played this game and contributed in one sense or another.
Our accomplished players continued to support and encourage those in the team who were new to the sport while also putting on their A-game for the chance of being selected in the HRIS representative team.
Special mention must go to Year 10 student Summah who proved herself a fantastic team player by volunteering to be the team’s goalie without hesitation. Summah had very little time to practise in the goalie gear and picked it up really quickly, making some fantastic saves.
We are incredibly proud of the efforts of all of the team, and we are excited to announce that Year 9 student Amber has been selected to represent in the HRIS Under 16s team.
