K-2 Athletics Carnival

Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 couldn’t have wished for a better day to hold their Athletics Carnival.

The sun shone and the wind dropped while everyone assembled on the front oval. Cheers from the children filled the air as all of Stage One ran down the track in their 70 metre heats.

The chanting got even louder when the children all had another chance to race in their House Relays. These were followed by the Dad’s and Mum’s races where parents dived for the finish line to secure their places. The cheers from the children in the crowd demonstrated their enthusiasm and passion for the day. One particular house chanted the loudest and the longest with an unrelenting “Let’s go Innes, let’s go!” throughout the day. Children from Columba Cottage joined in on the fun and ran their own races along with the SCAS little brothers and sisters race. The tension grew as the names were announced for the finals. The behaviour of the Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 children was exemplary. A number of parents commented that they had never experienced a carnival where the children stopped and listened to every announcement and made sure all the finalists heard their names.

Novelty events finished off the day with egg and spoon, rubber chicken races and bean bag relays to name just a few.

Thank you to all the students, the parents, grandparents carers and of course the teachers who made the day a wonderful success.
