SCAS Speech and Drama Success

SCAS Drama students took part in the Port Macquarie Speech and Drama Eisteddfod held at the Glasshouse on Friday 15 September.

Our first ever Year 5/6 Primary Ensemble were first to compete with their performance of “Seen but Not Heard” based on the children’s story of the same name. These students were praised for their theatricality as they portrayed the roles of the Silverhawke children running riot in their mansion. This energetic piece gained them 1st place.

Next to compete was our Senior Drama Ensemble with their Commedia D’ell Arte masked performance “The Pirate Play” a humorous piece with eccentric characters and a bit of a battle of the sexes. This piece too was victorious! Finally the last section we competed in was the Spontaneous Improvisation section where students in small teams were given a location, in this case, a “police station”, and 30 seconds to plan a three minute performance. Our senior boys team (Harley Coleman, Jordan Magnus-McCarthy, Jacob Killick, James Sutherland and Christopher Palin) won this section with their cheeky Police Dog scene which had the adjudicator laughing into his microphone.

SCAS was also awarded a Highly Commended and Encouragement Award in this competitive section. Special thanks to teachers Catherine Grootenboer, Ella Lakin and Kylie Rosenbaum, and to Drama Leaders James Sutherland and Harley Coleman.
