Knitting to Make a Difference

The SCAS Knitting Club has been meeting weekly during Terms 3 and 4 this year, with Karen Barnett and her Seniors Alive ladies coming in to teach our students how to knit. The end goal has been the creation of blankets to donate to people in need in Thailand.

Local Thai Pastor, Yingvit, who oversees twenty villages in Thailand, was delighted to receive the blankets from Karen, who travelled to Thailand recently to deliver them. This is the beginning of the cool season in Thailand and so the blankets will be much needed, especially in one village where a family has a newborn baby. Also, the blankets will go to villages that are particularly vulnerable to human trafficking and so having a blanket allows them to be elevated that one level above total poverty.

During Karen’s time in Thailand, she was able to give a presentation in relation to our Knitting Club and speak about the strength of a society being found in the generations connecting to each other and not being isolated.

Karen Barnett and the Seniors Alive group have enjoyed the experience so much that it will continue in 2020.

Thank you to Mrs Karen Barnett, Seniors Alive, Mr Joshua Barnett, Mrs Lisa Gooding, and also the Knitting Club students who were able to make such a difference in the lives of some Thai families.
