The Regional Final for the Lions Youth of the Year took place on Saturday night with four finalists from Forster, Taree and two schools from Port Macquarie competing.
Year 12 student, Stephanie Clark, won both the Public Speaking section and was announced Overall Winner on the night. Stephanie will now progress on to the next round to be held in Coffs Harbour.
Lions run this programme nationally around Australia. It is open to young people between the ages of 15 and 19 years of age and is a prestigious event which boasts many high profile Australians among the ranks of former entrants. These include Kevin Rudd; Peter Beattie, a past premier of Queensland; the ABC’s Sabra Lane and Senator Simon Birmingham. The program is now in its 50th year, and gives young people an unequalled opportunity to experience an interview situation in a friendly atmosphere and a chance to practise their public speaking skills, as well as the opportunity of networking with other students.
