Plain English Public Speaking Competition

Year 11 students Olivia Stanley and Mitchell Hardie travelled to Coffs Harbour recently to participate in the North Coast Final of the Plain English Public Speaking Competition.

The competition involved the presentation of two speeches: an eight minute prepared speech on an issue of social justice, and a three minute impromptu speech on the topic “Moving Forward”.

Amongst a stellar field of speakers both Mitchell and Olivia were standouts. The adjudicator commented upon their exceptional skill and said she expected to see both on the political stage in the future, such was their passion and knowledge on issues of justice.

Mitchell was awarded equal first place alongside a student from Pymple Ladies College, with Olivia just behind the two winners in points. This means that Mitchell will continue to the State Final in Sydney next month.
