Pocket Rocket Trent Alley Brings Home Gold

Trent Alley is a name to remember. The Year 3 student has skyrocketed from coming in just shy of the top ten at HRIS cross country last year, to winning the entire CIS event for his age group this year.

The 8-year-old boasts some speedy times on the course averaging a sub-four-minute per kilometre pace over a five-kilometre distance.

He has an incredible composure for someone his age. For Trent, setting times like these is all about the mentality going into the race. “I have to focus beforehand and just get mentally prepared,” explains Trent.

To get in the zone, Trent likes to visualise his race and remind himself of the efforts he has put into training. It is the combination of focus and passion that saw young Trent bring home last week’s win.

“I like to fit in a run at every opportunity possible. In between soccer training and of course school work, whether this is on the Googik Track, at Shelley Beach, around the neighbourhood or hill runs at Oxley oval,” says Trent.

Trent thanks his training buddy, Year 5 student Grace Curran and his soccer coach, Mr Tony Judge, for helping him along the way.

“Mr Judge has always taught me if you train hard and give 100% in anything you do, you will be rewarded with success,” says Trent.

Trent now progresses on to the NSW Primary Schools Sport Association (PSSA) Cross Country event later in July. After a taste of gold, he is hungry for another win and loves a good chance to celebrate.

“After I won CIS we celebrated with vanilla milkshakes. If I win PSSA I think I will have a chocolate one,” Trent laughs.

We wish Trent and the team of SCAS runners heading to PSSA and All Schools the best of luck!
