SCAS students aiming to break The Big Vegie Crunch record

The Healthy Kids Association is encouraging NSW children to eat more vegetables as part of Vegetable Week and The Big Vegie Crunch.

Katie Booth, Healthy Kids Association Senior Project Manager and Accredited Practising Dietitian, says that fun, interactive, school-based events—such as Vegetable Week & The Big Vegie Crunch—can help increase the variety and amount of vegetables kids eat.

“It is recommended that kids aged 4 to 12 years eat around five serves of vegetables each day for good health now, and into the future,” says Ms Booth. “Events like The Big Vegie Crunch combine fun, education and positive peer influence which can help kids try and enjoy different types of veggies both at school and at home.”

Statistics show that only one in 20 primary school-aged children are eating the recommended daily servings of vegetables.

The Big Vegie Crunch 2022 is on track to exceed over 100,000 children from 400 primary schools across NSW taking part in the event, all eating vegetables at the same time and aiming to break the Crunch record.

The Big Vegie Crunch is to be held at 9:50 am on Thursday 31 March.
