Students in Year 3 have been exploring how solids and liquids change state when heated and cooled. As a collaborative project, all students in Year 3 contributed a 2-litre block of ice to construct an iceberg here at SCAS. The set up generated excitement and discussion across the school as students predicted melt time, the rise of the water level and temperature difference between the ice being a solid, and the water being a liquid. The investigation provided a visual model to help students understand one of the ways global warming may be contributing to rising sea levels.
