Year 6 Canberra Excursion

Year 6 SCAS students have recently undertaken an educational tour of the National Capital, Canberra. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs, with a focus on Australia’s history, culture and democracy. It was engaging, enriching, and most importantly, incredibly fun!

Just a few of the highlights were:

  • Learning about preferential voting at the Electoral Education Centre
  • Seeing Jackson Pollock’s paintings at the National Art Gallery
  • Debating a bill in the House of Representatives while at Parliament House
  • Visiting the Royal Australian Mint
  • Seeing the multi-million dollar, high-tech pool at the Australian Institute of Sport
  • Learning about Australian war history at the Australian War Memorial; and
  • Visiting all the different galleries at Questacon.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government has contributed funding under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards the cost of the excursion.
