Being a wise consumer

SCAS Year 9 students have been studying the topic of Consumer Choice in Commerce this term and focusing on their role as a consumer. They looked at the types of decisions that they need to make and how these affect the quality of their lives. Particular emphasis was given to the decisions we make when we purchase goods and services and to the issue of consumer protection.

To deepen their understanding of this topic they were this week visited by Jodi Kemp from the NSW Department of Fair Trading (and mum to Year 9 Commerce student Molly) who outlined the key features of the Australian Consumer Law and provided real world examples. She also shared information about the nature of scamming and how students could avoid being tricked.

The knowledge gained by the Year 9 Commerce classes this term will equip them well to be wise consumers.
