Holiday fun at Football Skills Clinic

This week at SCAS budding footballers have made their way back to the school grounds during their term one break to learn from some of the sport’s best.

The clinic designed for students in years one to six aimed to improve player’s individual skills so that they can be more effective players.

PD/H/PE teacher Tony Judge spearheaded the week-long clinic that attracted high-level coaches and players alike.

“We are lucky to have guest coach Chris Minol from Sydney who is involved with the Australian School Boys Team, the New South Wales School Boys Team and the New South Wales Institute of Sport,” says Tony.

Working alongside Minol as a guest coach was Evan Berger a former A-League Champion playing for Melbourne Victory and Perth Glory.

“They have been challenged physically and mentally over the week yet have been incredibly enthusiastic making it an enjoyable camp,” says Evan.

Berger put the students through the ropes but believes they came out triumphant in the end.

The coaching that the footballers experienced had a strong focus on the fundamentals of the sport. Primary School Captain, Louka Alexopoulas, has taken away some valuable lessons from the clinic. “I’ve learned a lot about not turning into feet, defense, positioning myself well and having a better first touch.”

“It’s been great, especially with the coaches and their knowledge.”

The soccer skills clinic will continue in Term 2 with sessions starting on Thursday mornings on the front oval. Registration for students in years one through to six is available on the parent lounge.
