After some standout HSC results in 2017 where he placed 7th in the state for Construction, Jack Bligh-Jones is a finalist in the NSW 2018 Training Awards. Jack is in the 2018 Vocational Education Training Schools Student of the Year category.
Since finishing school last year, Jack has been undertaking a carpentry apprenticeship with Aspex Constructions. His most recent project saw him working on a heritage listed building at Kempsey East Public School and he’s “really enjoying it!”
Jack this week made his way back to SCAS where he was interviewed by the NSW Training Awards judging panel.
The panel asked Jack how his training at SCAS contributed to his career path and the development of his skills and achievements.
Completing Construction as a part of his HSC subjects, Jack feels as though he has somewhat fast-tracked his apprenticeship with the first six months of his TAFE coursework already completed.
“It definitely gave me a leg up on the other students,” Jack explains.
The North Coast and Mid North Coast Training Awards presentation will be held on June 15 in Coffs Harbour. Success here could see Jack progress all the way to the Australian Training Awards. The SCAS community wishes Jack all the best!
