Jake Inspires Engineering Students

Jake Southcott, Class of 2012, recently returned to SCAS to give our students insight into studying Engineering at University. Jake is in his final semester at UNSW studying Mechanical Engineering. He has a particular interest in the sustainable use of resources and he gave an overview of his Major Thesis (final year project).

Jake experimented with ways to collect the excess heat of gas combustion, then use it to generate electricity by photovoltaic means.

Jake developed several prototypes and increased efficiency to show how his refinements in design provided a pleasing improvement. It was inspirational to see a former student contributing to the development of sustainable energy in Australia.
