Parent-Teacher interviews are an important opportunity for parents/caregivers and teachers to establish positive relationships in the partnership of developing a child academically, socially and emotionally.

The intended outcome of Parent-Teacher interviews should be building a partnership.

We must have a unified approach regarding the development of students. By being open and honest about successes as well as concerns, we can help guide all involved in a positive direction. Therefore, the aim for both parents and teachers should be an increased knowledge and a shared understanding of how well the student is currently achieving and setting the next steps to help them.

Some parents have found that it’s handy to prepare questions beforehand, for example:

• How is my child doing in your class?
• What are their strengths and weaknesses?
• Do you have any concerns about their academic progress?
• Does my child listen in class?
• Does my child contribute to class discussions?
• How are their social skills? Do they get along with other students?
• Are there any behaviour issues?
• Are there any subjects which my child is reluctant to participate in?
• Is there anything else we should know about?
• What can we do to help?
