Premier’s Reading Challenge for Primary School Students

The Premier’s Reading Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely.

  • Kindergarten students will be required to read/experience 30 books to complete the Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) consisting of a minimum 25 PRC books and a maximum of five personal choice books. Parents of Kindergarten students are required to accept their child’s participation via the Parent Lounge.
  • Years 1 and 2 students will be required to read/experience 30 books to complete the Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) consisting of a minimum 25 PRC books and a maximum of five personal choice books. Independent Years 1 and 2 readers may wish to participate in the Years 3 and 4 Challenge by reading 20 books independently, at the class teacher’s discretion.
  • Years 3 and 4 students are required to read 20 books to complete the Challenge. (Minimum 15 PRC books and Maximum 5 Personal Choice books)
  • Years 5 and 6 students are required to read 20 books to complete the Challenge consisting of a minimum 15 PRC books and a maximum of five personal choice books.

All students who successfully complete the Premier’s Reading Challenge will receive a Certificate and their name may appear on the Gold or Platinum Honour Roll. The Honour Roll lists student names in the Premier’s Reading Challenge website only. Names are listed in alphabetical order (not by school) and no other identifying features are included. By not registering, no certificate will be issued and no name published.

Once registered, students will be provided with a Reading Record to record the books read. Years 3 to 6 students will be allocated a username and password to enter their books individually on the official website. This registration will remain valid until Year 9.

To successfully complete the Challenge the student must have an online reading record entered and validated by 31st August 2018.

View the PRC website for further information.
