Primary School Progressive Reporting

The Term 3 progressive report gives a snapshot of the academic progress of your child. Progressive Reports for Years 2 to 6 are now available on the Parent Lounge. Progressive Reports for Kindergarten and Year 1 have been sent home in diaries.

The scales and descriptions used for Effort Level and Performance Grade are stated below.

Performance Grade

At St Columba Anglican School A to E grades are assigned according to the Common Grade Scale published by the NSW Education Standards Authority.

About the Common Grade Scale

The Common Grade Scale describes performance at each of five grade levels.

AThe student has an extensive knowledge and understanding of the content and can readily apply this knowledge. In addition, the student has achieved a very high level of competence in the processes and skills and can apply these skills to new situations.
BThe student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.
CThe student has a sound knowledge and understanding of the main areas of content and has achieved an adequate level of competence in the processes and skills.
DThe student has a basic knowledge and understanding of the content and has achieved a limited level of competence in the processes and skills.
EThe student has an elementary knowledge and understanding in few areas of the content and has achieved very limited competence in some of the processes and skills.

It is possible that the grades awarded to a class might not use the full ‘A to E’ range. There is no predetermined number of grades to be distributed in each ‘A to E’ band. It is possible that students at the top of a class may not meet the standard required of an ‘A’ grade. In this case no ‘A’ grades would be awarded. It is also the case that students at the lower end of the class may be performing above a ‘D’ or ‘E’ standard. Each grade is awarded according to the professional judgement of the teacher to best represent each student’s achievements with respect to the published criteria. A student who receives a C grade would be working at expected grade level.
