SCAS Gets Connected

AARNet is a high-speed, high-capacity, high-performance network dedicated to meeting the data-intensive and specialised needs of Australia’s Research and Education communities. Their advanced network infrastructure is purpose built to support collaboration and innovation, connecting researchers and educators around the nation to each other and to their peers in the rest of the world across multiple 10 gigabits per second links. The shareholders are 38 Australian universities and the CSIRO. AARNet provides high-capacity leading edge Internet services for the education and research sector, including universities, research organisations, vocational training providers, schools and cultural institutions. AARNet serves more than one million end users who access the network for teaching, learning and research.

This week SCAS took another step in the process of installing an ultra-high-speed internet connection through AARNet which was installed by Thomas Newlands, the General Manager, Services and Provisioning. This network is currently used at Charles Sturt University and the Port Macquarie Base Hospital and will give our school the available bandwidth to engage with the next generation of platforms for teaching and will ensure reliable connectivity at SCAS into the future.

The AARNet network is specifically designed to deliver a high-quality experience into the classroom, especially for interactive and rich content. A school that is part of the AARNet community is also part of an international community dedicated to learning and discovery. AARNet is actively involved in a range of research-based activities that provide opportunities for schools to participate in programmes for innovative collaboration services, science research and international programs. Our students will now also enjoy the mobility of access to the networks of Educational institutions they visit, removing the burden of guest network access.

We are very excited to be able to connect to the AARNet network and look forward to seeing the benefits to our students into the future.
