We take pleasure in welcoming Ellisha Conway to our Primary team, teaching the Year 1 Sugar Gliders. Ellisha started her teaching career on the North Shore and Northern Beaches area of Sydney and taught on Lord Howe Island for two years prior to settling in Port Macquarie in 2021. Since moving to Port Macquarie, Ellisha has been busy in numerous roles including working in distant education, relieving a Principal of two small regional schools, and most recently as the Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instructions where she supported a number of small schools with the implementation of the new K-2 curriculum.
The Media team sat down with Ellisha at the start of Term 1 to get to know her more.
| What are you looking forward to about 2023 at SCAS? | I can’t wait to be working in the Stage 1 space again and to be collaborating and working alongside other passionate teachers. I am also quietly looking forward to regularly seeing the wallaby named Buddy, the self-appointed Stage 1 mascot, who I have already met on occasion hanging out in the playground area. |
| What was your favourite co-curricular activity as a student? | I went to a small regional school where there wasn’t a lot of choice for co-curricular activities, although I became quite skilled at doing tricks on the monkey bars. Through high school I loved art, dance and netball. |
| What is your favourite thing to do on the weekend? | The beach is my happy place, but I’m becoming more accustomed to lounging by the pool and hanging out with my mini dachshund Frankie, my three boys and my hubby. |
| What was your latest good read? | I recently read two novels by an Australian author – Trent Dalton, which were ‘Boy Swallows Universe’ and ‘All Our Shimmering Skies’. Both were great reads with very Australian themes, though quite different and captivating in their own way. |
| Tell us a fun fact about you | When I worked on the ski fields at Lake Tahoe, I was given the job as a performance ski salesperson even though I had never skied. I think it was because of my Australian accent. |
