This week in the Secondary School, we celebrated Harmony Day with our Mufti day on Thursday. Our students showed their support for the Willing and Able charity, which tirelessly works in our community to provide opportunities for people with disabilities to play a meaningful role in society. Mrs Linda Elbourne from Willing and Able addressed our students at assembly, emphasising the central message of Harmony Day – “everyone belongs.” This resonates deeply with our core Christian values here at St Columba, evident in our daily activities and interactions.
Our Secondary Equity and Advocacy Group is a remarkable example of this inclusive ethos. Led by students, this initiative aims to foster social change and ensure accessibility for all within our school community. All students, regardless of year group, are encouraged to join, and we extend this invitation to any interested staff as well. This platform provides an invaluable opportunity for students to voice concerns and take meaningful action within the SCAS community.
I also want to thank the members of our Indigenous community who participated in the Meet the Parent session last week, and acknowledge the wealth of knowledge and diverse cultural backgrounds of our school community. Initiatives such as these and our Indigenous well-being group “Our Mob”, are integral parts of our school’s culture.
In Chapel today, Reverend Jon began our journey towards Easter by exploring the significance of the crucifixion and the cross. The underlying message was profound: Jesus sacrificed himself so that we all have a path home through him.
As we continue our journey through the school year, let us remain committed to fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and included.
