It’s been another eventful week at school. Our Cross Country Carnival took place on Tuesday, featuring a new format with both competitive events and a fun run. We saw fantastic participation from students in both categories, making it a memorable morning for all involved. Congratulations to all our runners who have advanced to the next level of representation. Additionally, our Futsal teams have been excelling in local gala days, with the U14 Girls and Boys, as well as the U16 Boys teams, clinching victories in their respective divisions. Their sportsmanship and respectful behaviour have been commendable, reflecting the values we uphold at St Columba. Our debating team also kicked off their first round challenge this week, with our Year 9 team securing a win. Likewise, our chess team has been triumphant in recent outings, emerging victorious in both the local Interschools challenge and the first round of the knockout competition. These achievements exemplify the diverse activities available at our school, fostering a sense of community and pride among our students.
With camp week approaching, our students are gearing up for an exciting opportunity to push their limits in a supportive setting. For Year 7 to 9 students, these camps offer an introduction to outdoor education, gradually preparing them for the Duke of Edinburgh Award (DoE) practice expedition in Year 9. The DoE award encourages students to not only challenge themselves through expeditions but also develop new skills, maintain physical activity, and engage in community service. This year, our new Year 9 service learning program aims to support students in this endeavour, emphasising the importance of active participation in their communities.
In addition to camp preparations, our other year groups are also focusing on future pathways. Year 10 students have the choice of participating in work experience or joining the innovative ‘Future Directions’ careers preparation week. Year 11 will embark on a trip to Sydney to explore tertiary institutions, while Year 12 will undergo their first examination practice session of the HSC year.
As we look forward to the Easter break, I’d like to extend warm wishes to you and your family for a blessed Easter. May this time be filled with love, rest, and cherished moments with loved ones. Please ensure you’ve reviewed the details for camp week and that your child is prepared. Students will have the opportunity to clarify any questions during Year group meetings next Tuesday.
Wishing you all a joyful Easter break!
