Alumnus Nicholas Vardanega’s Law Career Takes Off

Nicholas Vardanega graduated from St Columba Anglican School in 2011 and started a Bachelor of Law and Commerce at the University of Newcastle.

Nicholas studied for three years at the University of Newcastle, completing his Bachelor of Commerce. Having enjoyed Commerce, he decided that he wanted to become a lawyer specialising in corporate law. Knowing that the corporate law field was very competitive, he decided to use his strong university marks to transfer to the University of New South Wales in Sydney.

Nicholas spent another three years completing his law degree, and also picked up a Major in Finance and Taxation for his Commerce degree, giving him a robust commercial understanding that would assist him in corporate law. During his studies, he also volunteered at community legal centres as well as undertaking a summer clerkship to help develop his practical legal skills.

Nicholas is currently working at the corporate law firm Thomson Geer. He is coming to the end of his first year, having completed two six-month rotations in different teams. His first rotation placed him in the commercial disputes team, where he was involved in preparing evidence and interviewing witnesses for large, commercial court cases. He is currently finishing his second rotation in the equity capital markets team, where he has assisted multiple companies in raising money on the Australian Stock Exchange.

Nicholas was admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in February this year after completing additional practical legal training, meaning that he is now considered a lawyer.
