Premier’s Reading Challenge

St Columba is once again participating in the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge in 2021. This year the PRC is open to all students in Kindergarten to Year 9. Log in details remain the same throughout a student’s schooling so students in Secondary can participate independently in the challenge.

What is the Challenge?

The Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) aims to encourage a love of reading for enjoyment and enrichment in students and enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student — to read, to read more and to read more widely.

St Columba has taken part in the PRC for many years, and all classes have an existing reading program that will be incorporated into the Premier’s Reading Challenge.

How it works

Kindergarten

Kindergarten students will be invited through the Parent Portal. Students will then experience 30 books in their classroom with their teacher registering all the books.

Years 1 and 2

Most Year 1 and 2 students will experience 30 books in their classroom, and the teacher will register all the books. Independent readers will be selected by the classroom teacher and invited to complete the Year 3-4 challenge level independently by reading 20 books and entering them online using a log on provided by their teacher.

Years 3 to 9

Years 3 to 9 students read 20 books (15 approved Challenge books and 5 personal choice books) independently from their year level list or above. Students that find the books on their level challenging can be moved to an open 3-9 challenge level and then they can read from any list K-9.

To complete the challenge the student must have an online reading record entered and validated by 20 August 2021. Every student who enters and successfully meets the challenge will receive a certificate.

Premier’s Reading Challenge Book Club

We have a Premier’s Reading Challenge book club in the Library every Short Break. There are students that can assist with picking suitable books. You can also borrow directly from the SCAS Library 24/7 page where books are listed in the various Challenge categories on the home page. Any questions, please see your classroom teacher or Mrs Gray.

Troubleshooting

Please note the login is case sensitive. Usually capitals for name and lowercase with a number for password. You can find the rules to this year’s challenge here.
