Sydney Dance Eisteddfod Excursion

On Saturday, 24th June, two SCAS Secondary Dance groups, the 7-9 Honours and the 7-12 Senior Honours, caught the Countrylink train from Wauchope to Sydney for the Sydney Dance Eisteddfod. Our accommodation was at the Youth Hostel (YHA) in the city. We have the wonderful opportunity on Saturday night to catch the train to Parramatta to see the Sydney Dance Company perform ‘Frame of Mind’.

Sunday morning we had some free time to wander through the Paddy’s Markets area, then two hours of rehearsal time at a studio. It was then time to go back to the rooms and prepare our hair and makeup. Part of the costume for the 7-9 group was Mozart wigs and they were quite a talking point, wearing them on the train trip down to the Opera House! We had lots of people looking and taking photos of us as we made our way through train stations and walking to the Opera House.

Our performances were held at the Sydney Opera House which was an amazing experience! Years 7 – 9 performed ‘Mozart’ (a mashup of Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance and Mozart). We received 1st place out of 12 entrants which means we now have the opportunity to perform back in Sydney in September at the Dance of Champions, which is a Nationally televised event.

The Senior Honours Group performed ‘The Force’, a mashup of Star Wars songs. They came in the top eight and qualified to compete at the Dance Gala to be held at the Sydney Opera House.

Congratulations to all of our dancers. Every one of us had an amazing experience. A special thanks also to our wonderful SCAS teachers, Mrs Shelly Kelly, Miss Brianna Thomas, Mrs Gayle Houlahan and Mr Mark Brown!

The School acknowledges the generous support of the Sydney Eisteddfod Committee for their donation of a Travel Grant for our Dance team.
