One of our Year 11 students, Alexandra Hawes, gave the opening address at this year’s ANZAC Day Ceremony in Port Macquarie. This was as a result of an invitation from Port Macquarie RSL President, Mr Greg Laird.
At the ANZAC Service held at the Town Green, Alexandra spoke confidently about the enduring legacy of ANZAC, reminding those attending the service of significant anniversaries such as the Battle of Beersheba and the Battle of the Coral Sea, as well as a reminder to those present to pay tribute to the volunteer nurses during the First World War, and the ongoing role of Women in the Australian Defence Force.
Alexandra was recently recognised for her incredible speech, and was presented with a gift from Mr Laird, who spoke very highly of her speech, making mention of the fact that he is still receiving positive feedback from members of the local community. Well done Alexandra – you are a credit to SCAS.
